Happy 3rd fitbattle Anniversary to ME!
“To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Yep…as of today I’ve been in the fitbattle for three years. Well at least today is the 3-year anniversary of when I signed up at 24-Hour Fitness. It took me a few more days to start my workouts.
On that fateful day…three years ago I found myself back in Vegas after a 23 year hiatus. I weighed about 177 pounds, was wearing a size 12/14, had brunette hair, and was working for the “man”. Today I feel like a Las Vegan all over again, I weigh on or about 134/135 pounds, wear a size 4/6, have blonde hair, and I’m currently enjoying a sabbatical.
Man what a difference three years can make. Other than dealing with my mysterious hip/thigh injury and the lack of incoming funds (due to no job)…life is good! My doc referred me to a physiotherapist for my hip/thigh. My first appointment is on Monday. All I need to do now is figure out what I want to do when I grow up. I’m seriously thinking about getting into the health and fitness industry.
Let’s be honest we aren’t getting any healthier or thinner. By we I mean Americans. One book I’m reading (written in 2007) quoted the U.S. Department of Labor saying that they predict that the demand for Personal Trainers will increase by 46% over the next six years. Overall the health and fitness industry is growing…I’m thinking besides being passionate about fitness the industry will continue to offer opportunities, so it may be for me.
When ever I see the associates at LVAC giving a tour of the facilities I get a flash back of my tour of 24-Hour Fitness three years ago. It’s amazing that I actually followed through and signed up. Even more amazing that I got past the point when most people lose steam and quit on themselves. Yep, the working out thing stuck – thank goodness! I have a new lease on life and I attribute it to my fitness success.
After all I’ve accomplished physically the last three years I feel like I can do anything. It’s a great feeling to have. All those walls and barriers I built up over all those years are gone…knocked down giving me a sense of freedom. Now all I see are the possibilities…I can do and be anything I want to be.
The time is now for me to finish this! Two words I often hear from Chris (personal trainer) and Corey (spin instructor). I was reminded of these two words on Tuesday night watching the Biggest Loser…Bob was working Daris extra hard in the “last chance workout” because Daris quit a challenge so close to finishing (and possibly winning) it. Bob gave Daris a lesson on finishing what he starts. There’s even a poster hanging in the gym with a quote by Bob:
“Stand up and finish what you started” ~ Bob
I started something three years ago…a journey with no specific destination, but a journey still. It’s time for me to finish this and find my new life’s purpose. That’s what I’m gonna do as I enter my fourth year of my fitbattle. Where this new year of my journey will take me is still yet to be revealed. I have no doubt that it will be my best year yet.
Happy Anniversary to ME!!!
