Bragging rights! This is HUGE!
I’ve had a very busy day today so I didn’t get a chance to work on the blog until very late. I was sitting here wondering what I should write about and then it dawned on me that I haven’t bragged about one of my recent REALLY COOL accomplishments. So here it goes…
A little over a week ago I did body-weight dips. Woo Hoo! This is HUGE!
Okay, I’m not going to assume that everyone knows what a body-weight dip is…so I’ve included a picture. And yes…I did more than one. I don’t remember exactly how many I did, but I think it was five the first set and then two more sets of eight each. These are not easy to do. Oh yes, I realize that I’m a lot lighter now, about 40 or so pounds, but I’m still 135 pounds give or take a pound.
It’s really cool to transition from assisted dips to body-weight dips. Honestly I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to blog (brag) about it. I think it’s because it was on a Friday night and I take the weekends off from blogging…so it wasn’t fresh on my mind come Monday.
I googled dips in search of a photo and I couldn’t resist doing a little reading once I saw the endless list of dip info. I thought I’d share some dip-ology with you. The dip primarily uses the triceps. Oh yes there are definitely some other muscles involved in the arms, chest, and back. I also learned in my reading that there are different variations of the dip…who knew? Well I’m sure Chris knows.
Dips are a “Push” exercise (vs. a “Pull”). I think that my conquest of the body-weight dip was on our last day of the Push/Pull Split. Now we’re doing chest and back one night, lower body (legs) one night, and arms one night. You know…mixing it up. Chris likes to keep things exciting by changing the workout every so often. Changing things up is better for me both mentally and physically.
Anyways…back to the dips. The only problem with having accomplished body-weight dips is what’s next? One way to make dips more challenging is to add more weight and I’m not talking about gaining weight. I’m afraid for the day that Chris straps a 35 pound plate onto me. I’ll definitely keep you posted on where we go from here with the dips.
The next big challenge? Pull ups…graduating from assisted to doing them all on my own. The good news…I’m starting to believe that I’ll be able to do a body-weight pull up. I wouldn’t have thought it possible just six months ago.
